The FEP-4600 Enterprise Communications Processor - an effective replacement for IBM® 37xx Front End Processors
Raleigh, N.C. – [March 6, 2006] – Visara International announces the FEP-4600, the newest addition to their industry leading family of mainframe and midrange connection solutions. The FEP-4600 focuses on the IBM® data center as a cost effective replacement for 37xx Front End Processors, providing the mainframe user the ability to perform high speed SNI, Bisync and LAN communications without the need for a traditional front-end processor or associated costly software products.

Connecting directly to IBM® and IBM®-compatible mainframes via a direct channel connection, the FEP-4600 provides full communications between the mainframe and the remote network, which gives the customer SNA, Bisync, and PU4 communications while eliminating the need for costly licensed software from IBM®. The robust architecture of the FEP-4600 allows units to be stacked using a single channel interface, thus providing an expandable system. Changes and reconfigurations can be performed while the equipment is fully operational so there is no need to bring the entire network down for maintenance.

According to Visara International's President, Dr. Kenneth A. Bloom: "IBM decided several years ago to end their production and support for 37xx FEPs. This move forced many customers worldwide to keep their FEPs solely for SNI, BiSync, or both, without support. This is where the FEP-4600 really shines; it supports both SNI and BiSync with NO software license required. This represents a very short ROI."

The configuration program is menu driven and accessed via a remote network attached console. Each communication line, channel adapter and network interface can be individually configured, controlled and monitored online without the need to reload the system. This eliminates scheduling configuration changes during off hours. System configurations are stored in the unit allowing it to function without an operational system console. In addition to monitoring the FEP-4600 via the system console, each communication line and channel can be monitored using onboard LED indicators. These indicators display real-time activity, error state and connection status.
