Visara Announces
Enhancements to Linux Thin Client Desktop New Features Position 1883 Network
Computing Terminal as Best-in-Class Product
Raleigh, NC - September 26, 2001 - Visara, Inc., a leading provider
of host connectivity solutions and thin-client desktops, today announces
enhancements to its Linux-based 1883 Network Computing Terminal (NCT).
These new features provide users with the capability to deploy new and
advanced functionality in their thin-client networks.
The 1883 NCT is engineered with Visara's trademark native connectivity
and resident emulation clients. Key feature enhancements to the Linux-based
1883 NCT include Virtual Network Computing (VNC) for enhanced access between
desktops, Network File System (NFS) transfer protocol for faster access
and seamless sharing of files, full audio support over IP, active USB
ports, and ELO touch panel support.
"We have seen a very rapid acceptance of the 1883 NCT since its
launch earlier this year. This speaks well of the Linux operating system
and the high performance offered by the 1883," said John W. Wells,
Director of Marketing for Visara, Inc. "Users are quickly embracing
the idea of open-source computing offered by the Linux operating system,
and the 1883 is a great desktop for deploying Linux. With the new feature
enhancements, the 1883 has just become even better for the user."
The success and widespread acceptance of thin client desktops continues
to be driven by the inherent technological advantages of thin client computing,
including low total cost of ownership, centralized network control, simple
user configuration performed locally or remotely, security, and desktop
manageability. Through the introduction of the feature enhancements on
the 1883 NCT, Visara continues to raise the bar for thin-client computing,
offering high performance, features, and broad application access.
