Visara Introduces Linux Thin Client Desktops

Raleigh, NC - March 1, 2001 - Visara, Inc., a leading provider of host connectivity solutions and thin-client desktops, introduces two Linux desktops to an already inclusive product line - the 1883 Network Computing Terminal (NCT) and the eTerm 450Plus Linux-based Terminal. These desktops provide customers a choice, not only in operating system, but also in functionality, connectivity, and application.

The 1883 NCT is built upon the strength of Visara's Network Computing Terminal family. It is defined by key feature differences, including a resident Linux operating system and Netscape web browser, which is enabled for Java® Virtual Machine. The 1883 NCT offers Visara's trademark native connectivity and resident emulation clients. Its Linux operating system supports X-terminal, Citrix ICA®, and RDP protocols, therefore allowing for remote display and input capabilities over network connections for Windows-based applications running on a server.

The eTerm 450Plus Linux-based Terminal is also introduced as a complementary product to an existing desktop line, Visara's Windows-based Terminals. Product highlights include a resident Linux operating system and a resident Netscape web browser enabled for Java® Virtual Machine. Its features are similar to the 1883 NCT, but it is marketed as an Ethernet solution, one complete with support for X-Terminal, Citrix ICA®, and RDP protocols.

"Visara's Linux desktops bring the power of open-source computing and thin client technology together to provide a robust Linux environment for desktop applications," said John W. Wells, Director of Marketing for Visara, Inc. "We are extremely pleased with our initial product reviews and believe that we are giving our customers a strong choice in desktop computing. With the ever-expanding Linux market, Visara is poised to continue its gain in market share as a result of these latest offerings."

The success and widespread acceptance of thin client desktops continues to be driven by the inherent technological advantages of thin client computing, including low total cost of ownership, centralized network control, and desktop manageability. With the release of the 1883 NCT and eTerm 450Plus, Visara raises the bar for desktop computing, offering high performance, features, and broad application access. Whether its native coax or Ethernet connectivity, a resident Netscape web browser, or the freedom of the Linux operating system, Visara has the desktop to meet your needs.
