SNA to IP Printing

Do you need a better way to send your SNA mainframe print jobs out to printers on your IP network? Visara may provide the solution that you are looking for through our 1174 Communication Server product line. The 1174 LAN Printer solution receives SNA print jobs directly from your host applications and converts them into IP print jobs to be sent to printers anywhere on your IP network. The 1174 platform can be positioned anywhere in your network including ESCON channel, Bus and Tag channel, LAN-attached and remote via SDLC, Frame Relay, and even BSC. When directly attached via ESCON or Bus and Tag, the printer traffic placed on your network is IP traffic, not SNA.

Conversion of the data stream from SNA to IP format is made by the 1174, then sent across your LAN/WAN network to be printed on your network printers. Both, LPR/LPD and Socket methods may be employed across the IP network, depending on your needs and preferences. In addition to host system prints, traditional coax users can local-copy screen data to the LAN printers using the local copy print key.

The 1174 provides mainframe application support for up to 256 LAN-attached printers per platform. Hundreds of host applications can be directed to these printers. You can run additional 1174 platforms to provide support for more printers and to provide redundant pathways to the same printer. LAN printers do not need to be dedicated to the 1174 platform, so they are available to provide printing for other networking applications as well.

The 1174 is a dedicated communication server platform (24 by 7) not a PC, which allows your printing to reach its destination reliably. Queue management and error recovery can be made from any host terminal through NetView, through an 1174-attached terminal, or through a network connection into the 1174 platform.

LAN printing upgrades for your existing Visara or Memorex Telex 1174s are available.
